108-Year-Old Woman Says Secret to Long Life Was to Have Dogs and Not Children

The Secret to a Longer Life Is Man’s Furry Friends!

Be it in real life or in fiction, humans have always wanted to have a long life. While in the Harry Potter universe, they have horcruxes, in our world, such tools are hard to come by. However, a lot can be learned from experienced people. One such individual with vast life experience is Ada Daniel from England. The 108-year-old has been living in Codnor Park Care Home since 2015. Having had a lot of greyhounds throughout her life, she jokes that the secret to a long life is to have canines and not kids.

A Sweet Gesture

Ada did not have kids, so she didn’t have many family members left. So, as her special birthday approached in her first year at the care home, the staff launched an online appeal for cards for the birthday girl on Facebook. The very next morning, Kelly Goucher, the activity coordinator at Ashmere, the parent organization of the home, saw 135 responses willing to send cards. Soon, they received almost 300 cards, which they surprised Ada with at an intimate birthday party. At this bash with balloons donated after the appeal launch and afternoon tea, the popular birthday girl remarked that she quite liked that people knew about her due to her long life.

Again, as her 105th birthday came up in 2020, the staff initiated a similar appeal, following which more than 200 cards were sent. As the online appeal continued, it was revealed that Ada had no clue about the appeal launch, which further surprised her. Apart from the cards, people have been sending various items, like banners with pictures of Ada on them and balloons with her name imprinted on them, to the home. The activity coordinator mentioned that Ada has been looking forward to her upcoming birthday and has even been engaged in a countdown to the grand day.
